Introducing: Prologue's Harrington Jacket

Transitioning between winter and spring is not always easy, especially in Hong Kong when weather can fluctuate between chilly cold and suffocating heat overnight. Our take on the classic Harrington jacket is designed to help you bridge that transition with a lightweight garment that is steeped in history and culture.

The first Harrington jackets came to be in the UK in the 1930s and were designed to be comfortable and lightweight jackets worn to play golf and sports. Following its popularisation in the 1950s and 1960s by American style icons like Steve McQueen and James Dean among others, the jacket became a staple in men’s wardrobes across the States.

The jacket then found resurgence in the UK from the 1960s onwards among mods, punks, and indie rock subcultures by becoming a core part of their looks and uniforms.

The original Harrington jacket features a classic two-button stand collar, which we replaced with a retro aviation-inspired turn down collar, complete with our logo embroidered on the corduroy lined undercollar, for a touch more structure to be turned up and frame the face handsomely with tailored clothing. The collar also mimics a sport jacket’s lapels when zipped halfway for a smarter casual look.

Typical Harringtons can be found with ribbed cuffs and waistbands, but we felt that this causes unnecessary blousing and required excessive length in the body, leading us to simplify the jacket with clean snap-button cuffs and side tabs at the waist. Moreover, we shortened the length of our Harrington to make it fit better with the higher-waisted tailored trousers we are accustomed to such that the jacket just covers the trousers’ waistband with a refined silhouette.

Corduroy in a rich chocolate adorn the undercollar and cuffs providing a subtle pop of contrast and rugged charm against the jacket’s otherwise polished monotone exterior. Harringtons almost always feature high-contrast checkerboard lining and ours is no different, with our beige Harrington sporting a bright red checked lining while our navy iteration features a mustard yellow lining.

Hongkongers will be no strangers to rain, and our splash proof cotton will keep you dry during light showers, while the two-way zip can be used for extra heat retention should the temperature fall. Pick stitching along the jacket’s D-pockets, and across the jacket’s back where a storm flap would traditionally be, complete it with a subtle finishing touch that calls to mind our tailoring roots.

Our Harrington jackets are available for pre-order in our splash proof cotton in beige and navy at shop.prologuehk.com or at the link in our bio.

We recommend pairing our Harrington jacket with higher waisted trousers and chinos or even with vintage-style denims to highlight the cropped length of the jacket, inspired by photos of style icons of years past. Dress it up with an OCBD and tie or do it like Dean with a t-shirt to rebel without a cause.
